Electrical Maintenance Skills - Part 1

Technical Training Course: Electrical Skills - Basic: make connections, replace fuses, reset trips; fault-finding: LITS: UK Ireland Channel IslandsEmployers are legally obliged to ensure that all electrical work is carried out by competent persons for reasons of safety. This course is primarily designed to provide the very basic electrical skills and understanding for those working in the maintenance sector. Importantly, the format of the course is specifically designed so that, when combined with suitable in-plant consolidation of training, it will assist employers in meeting the legal requirements for employee-competency in electrical work.

Who is the course aimed at?

The structure and content of the course is aimed at those fulfilling a maintenance role who as part of their normal routine, work on or near to electrical equipment performing such tasks as making connections to equipment, replacing fuses, resetting trips and carrying out basic fault-finding. No prior electrical knowledge is assumed.

Course Presentation

The course has an extensive 'hands on' element, placing emphasis on safe working practice and on the development of useful and essential practical skills and understanding. Comprehensive course notes are provided

Course Objectives

On successful completion of the course, candidates will be able to:

  • understand the relevant regulative requirements;
  • understand the principles of safe isolation;
  • prepare a range of cables for termination;
  • demonstrate an understanding of electrical principles and units;
  • identify a range of electrical devices and understand their principles of operation/connections;
  • understand the principles of earthing/protection and associated protective devices.

This course also provides the foundation for course 104; 'Electrical Maintenance Skills - Part 2'.

Certification

On-going practical assessment and a multiple-choice examination forms the course assessment process.

Successful completion of both elements leads to the award of: L.I.T.S. Ltd Certificate 'Electrical Maintenance Skills - Part 1'
