Logical Approach to Fault-Finding

Course No: 200 - 2 Days; £395.00

Engineering Maintenance: Fault-Finding Techniques: Technical Training Course: UK Ireland Channel IslandsThe ability to fault-find effectively is not automatically acquired by all those trained in maintaining engineered systems. This is because of the misplaced assumption that the ability to remove and replace components correctly for example, also includes the ability to think clearly and logically, correctly differentiate between symptoms and causes and apply the correct course of action to find faults in equipment and systems.

Clearly, not everyone involved in engineering maintenance can fault-find effectively and yet adopting the correct approach can save lengthy and costly periods of down-time and can also prevent repeat calls and damage to expensive machinery.

This short, highly-focused course is specifically designed to develop the logical approach to fault-finding that will greatly assist in reducing dowtime and increasing productivity.

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is suitable for staff from all engineering disciplines where their duties involve maintaining and trouble-shooting equipment. An understanding of typical engineered systems and components is assumed.

Course Presentation

The course has an extensivley practical approach using tailor-made equipment that enables candidates to apply logical thinking and symptom analysis. Comprehensive course notes are provided.

Course Objectives

On successful completion of the course, candidates will be able to:

  • understand Permits to Work;
  • recognise and remove hazards;
  • differentiate between 'Methodical' and 'Logical' approaches;
  • apply the 6-step approach to fault-finding;
  • correctly differentiate between symptoms, faults and causes;
  • understand the failure modes of a wide range of components
  • analyse causes to prescribe ways to reduce repetitive failures.
Certification

On-going practical assessment and a multiple-choice examination forms the course assessment process. Successful completion of both elements leads to the award of: L.I.T.S. Ltd Certificate 'Fault-Finding Techniques'
